FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS YOGA?
Yoga is an ancient tradition originally starting in India thousands of years ago. It developed out of a need for man to more deeply understand all aspects of human experience. It is still relevant today as we continue to search for a deeply personal insight into our own hearts, minds and lives. Many people come to yoga as a popular way of getting fit, and end up also finding some serenity in today's hectic world.
Yoga means union - the union of body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul. The regular practice of yoga helps us to experience peace, harmony and oneness with our inner being, by connecting the body and mind with the breath.
HOW DOES YOGA WORK?
We achieve this union through a combination of ASANAS (postures), PRANYAMA (breathing techniques), and MEDITATION (sitting peacefully). Through these practices, and by steadying the mind and emotions, we are able to gain a sense of perspective, resulting in a feeling of freedom and inner strength.
IS YOGA SUITABLE FOR ME?
Anyone can do yoga, regardless of age, gender or religious beliefs. Many people also believe if they're not flexible they can't do yoga. However the opposite is true... if you practice yoga, you gradually become more flexible. Practice and consistency are the keys.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING/WEAR TO CLASS?
Wear comfortable clothing, eg leggings and T-shirt. I have mats for use, but I encourage you to bring your own mat, and also a rug for relaxation. Bolsters and straps are available for use in class. It is advisable not to eat for at least 2 hours prior to class. Bring a water bottle for before and after class, but try not to drink during practice. Come well hydrated. Please arrive 10 minutes before classes commence, turn off mobile phones before entering, and keep noise levels to a minimum in the studio. Please also use hand sanitiser provided as you enter, and do not attend if you are feeling at all unwell.
