I teach Hatha Yoga classes, which align movement with the breath to develop strength, flexibility, calmness in the mind and greater awareness from within. A typical class starts with a short relaxation to centre yourself, focusing on breathing techniques ( pranayama), then moving through a series of yoga postures (asana) to increase flexibility, strengthen and relax the body. The class finishes with quiet seated breath work and a final relaxation.
It doesn't matter if you've practiced yoga for years, or if you've never even stepped on a mat. Yoga can transform you. There is no right or wrong, no pretention, no judgement, no need to strive or achieve. When you step onto your mat you are simply you.
The well-being of my students is the most important part of my teaching. Everyone is different, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Patience, empathy, providing variations and modifications are at the core of my teaching.
CLASSES:
HATHA YOGA: My classes are gentle, with a calming flow practice, but can also be challenging allowing for self- improvement as students progress on their yoga journey. My classes cater for all levels, from beginners to those who have been practicing for many years. I adjust individual classes to suit those present, and encourage students to listen to their own bodies and work at their own level. There is a strong emphasis on learning to relax the body and reduce the impact of daily stress. In my home studio, we occasionally use various props to go deeper into postures, promoting a peaceful and focused mind. Hatha yoga classes improve circulation and nervous system functioning, and release tension from the body.
RESTORATIVE YOGA: Restorative yoga is a deeply relaxing practice, where we use multiple props (pillows, bolsters, blocks and straps) to support us in the poses, allowing us the opportunity to truly release and let go from the pressures of day-to-day life. Allowing the body "to be" instead oh having "to do". It's like having a "mini retreat" for the body and the mind, and the benefits are enormous. These yoga classes are generally run from my home studio during school holiday breaks.
